As you become used to working in the Visual Studio development environment, you can set preferences for all the forms and projects you work with in the Windows Forms Designer.
Set global Windows Forms options
- By default, Word makes objects snap (jump) to an underlying grid laid across the document. If you drag an object, such as a shape, you'll notice that it moves in little jerks rather than smoothly. This is because of the grid - but because the grid is usually invisible, it's not obvious.
- Turn on the snap-to options. Click the shape or other object, and then on the Shape Format tab, under Arrange, click Align. Do one or both of the following: To snap shapes or other objects to the closest intersection of the grid, click Snap to Grid. Gray highlighting indicating the option is selected turns on.
In Visual Studio, from the Tools menu, select Options.
In the left pane of the Options dialog box, click Windows Forms Designer.
In the right pane, under the Layout Settings heading, you can set the default grid settings for all the new forms you create. These settings include the grid size, whether controls snap to it, and whether it is on by default. In addition, you can select between SnapToGrid and SnapLines layout modes. Select Align Grid Settings. Use the settings to enable the Snap-to feature, display alignment guides, and change the distance between gridlines. As this Microsoft Word support article says, the Snap To feature only works in Print view. Divide Your Page for the Fold. For greeting cards that fold down the middle, you can divide the page in half. Shortcut Description: This shortcut is used to snap objects to the Excel grid, including charts, text boxes, shapes, smart art. You can use this for dragging objects to a new location in the worksheet and resizing objects so that their edges align with the grid. To do this, you need to press (Alt) key and it will snap objects to the Excel grid.
