Rewire Propellerhead

What is ReWire.dll? ReWire.dll is part of ReWire and developed by Propellerhead Software AB according to the ReWire.dll version information. ReWire.dll's description is 'ReWire' ReWire.dll is usually located in the 'C: Windows SysWOW64 ' folder. None of the anti-virus scanners at VirusTotal reports anything malicious about ReWire.dll. Reason doesn't work in ReWire mode with my DAW. Both the ReWire host and device apps need to be running in the same bit mode for ReWire to work. If your host application is 32-bit, you need to run Reason in 32-bit mode as well. This can only be done in Reason 8.1 and earlier, since Reason 8.2-10.4 are 64-bit only.

Propellerhead announced Reason 11/Reason 11 Suite with which they say goodbye to Rewire by offering Reason as a plugin for other DAWs.

Rewire

Propellerhead Software is always good for a surprise. In one year, they released the Rack Extension as a plugin competitor, the other they released VST plugin support for Reason 10. That’s not all of the PS surprises. Today, the Swedish company announced Reason 11 and Reason 11 Suite, a major update for their digital audio workstation (DAW). Most believe it’s a normal update with new features and content. Wrong! It is a radical step in a new direction and no, it’s not a subscription service.

First, Propellerhead Software will be renamed to Reason Studios and so PS will be history. Further, they announced Reason 11, a major update to its flagship music-making software. The biggest news here is probably that Reason 11 comes as a plugin on the market. Yes, a bit crazy a DAW in DAW. The idea is actually old because with the “hateful-loving” Rewire technology, you can already do that in Reason 10.

Reason Rack Plugin: Reason Becomes A Monster Modular Virtual Instrument/Effect Processor

With the help of the new Reason Rack Plugin, you can use all your favourite instruments, effects (+ Rack Extensions) in any DAW with VST/AU support. Also, the cable connections on the back of every device will be available here, which makes the plugin version very powerful. So, Reason becomes a monster modular virtual instrument/effect processor plugin with synths, effects… and of course Rack Extension support. Not a bad move, it makes the Reason Platform for more users open and raises the interest in Rack Extensions.

“The rack of devices has always been the core of Reason. Now with Reason 11, anyone can easily add the Reason Rack Plugin to their favorite DAW” said Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Propellerhead Product Manager. “With the addition of 6 new devices, the Reason Rack is bigger than ever, so that you can make music the way you want. We’ve, of course, improved Reason as a DAW too, adding some of the most requested workflow features like improved sequencing and editing.”

Reason 11, with its seamless integration into other music production software, truly exemplifies how we want to open up to the world.”

⚠ Known Issue: Pro Tools does not start anymore after my first Mixup plugin install: see here

In order to transport control Pro Tools with Mixup, please follow those steps:

  1. Insert the Mixup Rewire Device on an instrument track. This will activate Pro Tools' ReWire protocol and accept transport requests from the Mixup Plugin. You can then choose to hide this track and forget about it.
  2. Insert the Mixup Plugin on any track (audio, instrument, bus). We suggest you insert it LAST on your mix bus in order to compare your current mix VS older versions

Mixup Plugin and Mixup Rewire should now be paired and allow you to click on your Mixup Plugin's timeline or comment timestamps and keep your DAW's play head in sync.

Troubleshooting: Why is my Mixup Rewire plugin not showing?

Pro Tools sometimes forgets to re-scan your rewire devices you recently installed. In order to force Pro Tools to re-scan and find your devices, please try the following steps.

For Mac:

First, please make sure that those two files exist on your drive:

  • /Library/Application Support/MixupAudio/Mixup/Mixup ReWire Device.bundle
  • /Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/Mixup ReWire Device.bundle

Rewire.dll Propellerhead

Note: the 2 paths above are located at the root of your drive (/Library) and NOT FROM YOUR USER FOLDER (~/Library or /Users/<username>/Library). If both those files do not exist, please reinstall the plugin.

Next, the goal is to delete the file:
~/Library/Preferences/Avid/Pro Tools/InstalledAAXPlugInswhich is hidden by default :-(

  1. Quit Pro Tools and open Finder
  2. Click on the Go menu at the top of your screen, hold down the Option key on your keyboard, and select Library
  3. Navigate to Preferences > Avid > Pro Tools
  4. Delete the file called “InstalledAAXPlugIns
  5. Launch Pro Tools. It should now scan for any 64 bit ReWire client currently installed.

For Windows:

First, please make sure the following file exists on your drive:
C:Program FilesMixupAudioMixupMixup ReWire Device.dll

Propellerhead Rewire Free Download

If this file is not present on your drive, please reinstall the plugin.

Next, the goal is to delete the file:
C:UsersYOURUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingAvidPro Tools/InstalledAAXPlugIns

  1. Quit Pro Tools
  2. Navigate to C:UsersYOURUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingAvidPro Tools
  3. Delete the file called “InstalledAAXPlugIns
  4. Launch Pro Tools. It should now scan for any 64 bit ReWire client currently installed.
