The process to deploy a Windows 7 virtual machine (VM) on Azure Virtual Desktop is slightly different than for VMs running later versions of Windows. This guide will tell you how to deploy Windows 7. Before you start, follow the instructions in Create a host pool with PowerShell to create a host pool.

Download an ISO for Windows 10. Download an ISO for Windows 8.1 - this option is newer and uses a Microsoft tool called Media Creation Tool which, similar to the one above for Windows 10, lets you choose which edition of Windows 8.1 you want downloaded as an ISO: Win 8.1 or Win 8.1 Pro, 32-bit or 64-bit. These instructions are for Windows, if you’ve got a Mac please see this article: OVA files for macOS. VirtualBox is a free virtualisation product. In short it allows you to run various other operating systems on your computer seamlessly.

Before installing, please note:

These virtual machines expire after 90 days. We recommend setting a snapshot when you first install the virtual machine which you can roll back to later. Mac users will need to use a tool that supports zip64, like The Unarchiver, to unzip the files.
The password to your VM is 'Passw0rd!'

The Microsoft Software License Terms for the Microsoft Edge and IE VMs are included in the release notes and supersede any conflicting Windows license terms included in the VMs. By downloading and using this software, you agree to these license terms.

We offer open-source (Linux/Unix) virtual machines (VDIs) for VirtualBox, we install and make them ready-to-use VirtualBox images for you. From here you can download and attach the VDI image to your VirtualBox and use it. We offer images for both architectures 32bit and 64bit, you can download for free for both architectures. At the moment we have plans to offer you 30+ Linux/Unix distributions, we may add more to our list in near future, you can also send us suggestions if we are missing any popular distribution from our list. We do not install ‘Guest Additions’ in the OS or add any kind of stuff, read our privacy policy.

VirtualBox is the most easiest way to run secondary OS on your primary operating system, If your hardware doesn’t allow you to install any other operating system then VirtualBox comes in hand. It is a free and powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product available for most of the operating systems such as Linux, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris and ported version for FreeBSD.
